Prime Minister of Montenegro
Igor Lukšić was born on 14th June 1976 in Bar. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Podgorica. At the same institution he obtained a Master’s Degree on “Spontaneous Order and Transition” and a PhD on “Transition - Process of Achieving Economic and Political Freedoms.”
In the period from June 1998 to February 2000, he worked as an associate in implementing the European Commission’s assistance programme “Obnova” at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro. In the period from January to May 2001, he performed duties of Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was an MP at the Parliament of Montenegro (five times) and the Parliament of Serbia.
In the period from January to April 2003, he was a public relations adviser for the Prime Minister. From March 2003 to February 2004, he served as a Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia and Montenegro. Since February 2004, he has served five terms as a Finance Minister and two terms as a Deputy Prime Minister.
During his mandate he initiated a series of legal solutions, and projects aimed at further reforming of the public finance and tax system.
He was the youngest Minister and Deputy Prime Minister at the Government of Montenegro.
He was appointed Prime Minister on December 29, 2010
