Darja Bavdaž Kuret is State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, responsible for multilateral affairs, development cooperation and bilateral relations with non-EU countries. She is a career diplomat who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia in 1991. In her diplomatic career, she served as Ambassador of Slovenia to Israel and Representative to the Palestinian Authorities (1995 – 1999), to Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Latvia (2002 – 2006), to Hungary and Bulgaria 2009 – 2013 and to India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka (2013-2015). She held numerous positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Head of Department for Neighbouring Countries, Department for non-European Countries and Department for Analysis and Planning. During the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of EU, she was Coordinator and Chair of the COEST Working Group. Between 2006 and 2008, she also served as Secretary General of the Bled Strategic Forum.
