Julia De Clerck-Sachsse

Strategic Planning Division of the  European External Action Service, Brussels

Dr. Julia De Clerck-Sachsse is adviser in the Strategic Planning Division of the  European External Action Service (EEAS) where she works on the EU's Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy, Forward Planning and Transatlantic Relations. Previously she served as the speechwriter to the European Union's High Representative/Vice President Federica Mogherini and her predecessor Catherine Ashton. In this role she also focused on the communication strategy for EU external relations. Before joining  the European External Action Service, Julia worked in the Europe Directorate of the German Federal Foreign  Office and on  Strategic Foresight for global governance,  development & security policy at the European Commission. From 2005-09 Julia was  Research Fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in Brussels,  focusing on EU Institutions and the EU's External Relations. In 2015 Julia was appointed Adjunct Professor for European and Global Diplomacy and member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for European and Global Diplomacy at Vesalius College, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Until 2012 she was also a lecturer on EU Politics at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po), Paris. Julia holds a BA in History from King's College, London and MPhil & DPhil degrees in International Relations  from St. Antony's College, Oxford University.
