William Schmieder is President, Raytheon International, Inc., Europe. Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), with 2012 sales of $24 billion and 68,000 employees worldwide, is a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, homeland security and other government markets throughout the world. Raytheon’s global headquarters is in Waltham, Mass.
Schmieder is based in Warsaw, Poland and serves as the Corporation’s primary external interface. He establishes and maintains Raytheon’s strategic relationships with European customers and trading partners, and serves internally as the senior voice of the customer. He is responsible for identifying key pursuits, developing and implementing capture strategies and managing the Corporation’s regional sales assets. With over 35 years of international business experience, Schmieder is the focal point for achieving Raytheon’s growth goals in Europe.
Schmieder joined Raytheon from General Dynamics, where he served 12 years as Corporate Vice President – International, responsible for developing and implementing the Corporations international business development objectives, representing General Dynamics to the U.S. and foreign governments and coordinating the Washington component of the company’s win strategies.
Before joining General Dynamics, Schmieder was Vice President of Business Development for Lockheed Martin’s Missiles and Fire Controls Division, with P&L responsibility for domestic and international business development activities. He was Director of International F-16 programs for General Dynamics before joining Lockheed Martin.
Schmieder also had a distinguished flying career in the U.S. Air Force, to include combat and senior staff assignments. His last position was Chief Europe/NATO Division, Office of the Secretary of Defense.
Schmieder holds a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University, and master’s degrees from Texas Christian University, the University of Utah, and the National War College. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia Darden School.
