2 December, 2013 – 18:00 to 20:00

The fourth BratislavaCHAT event will take place on 2 December 2013 at 18:00 in the Restaurant HRAD in the vicinity of the Bratislava Castle (Námestie A. Dubčeka 1). The discussion will focus on the future of transatlantic relations. We will have the pleasure of welcoming Mr Kurt Volker, former ambassador of the United States to NATO, as a discussant. Please, find a more detailed description of the topic further on:

Having served five U.S. Administrations on issues of European politics and security, Kurt Volker is currently one of the most respected foreign policy and security brains in Washington, D.C. Launching his career as a CIA analyst in 1986, Kurt went on to spend over two decades at the U.S. Foreign Service, later becoming the U.S. top representative in NATO and advisor to one of the most distinct U.S. politicians of our time – Senator John McCain. During his visit of Bratislava, the veteral diplomat and foreign policy expert will discuss the changing character of transatlantic ties, which, according to some, have been under strain since the 2003 Iraq War. Other factors likely impacting U.S.-EU relations – including the impact of Barack Obama’s presidencies and the affect the NSA’s alledged spying programmes have had on Europe’s trust towards its key ally – will also be put under scrutiny.

We hope that your duties will allow you to join us and that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you at the next BratislavaCHAT discussion.
Yours sincerely,
Slovak Atlantic Commission
