Up until now, Moldova has been the widely cited success story of the EU’s Eastern Partnership policy. Compared to Belarus and recently Ukraine, Moldova’s staunchly pro-European stands were music to Western ears. Chisinau has held high expectations toward the upcoming Vilnius Summit. However, after the recent collapse of the pro-European ruling coalition, all such reflections may be up-side down.

The Reality Check is a fresh policy review process aiming to gather insights from top domestic and international analysts, practitioners, diplomats and policy-makers working in and on the EaP countries, with the ambition to discuss these behind closed doors. The first such a review was theBelarus Reality Check enacted in Vilnius, Lithuania October 2012.

The first Moldova Reality Check session comes at the right time with the objective to review the real factors influencing the country’s politics, both internal and external, and to suggest an appropriate policy line for the EU towards the Vilnius Summit.
