At the time when the EU has set ambitious goals for its external action, including the gender equality component within the Gender Action Plan III for 2021-2025, the foreign policy positions are still male-dominated. Research shows that greater representation of women in high politics leads to a substantial focus on issues concerning civil society, electoral reform, development, and gender-responsive politics. Similarly, greater involvement of women in foreign policy and conflict settlement may contribute to more sustainable peace.

  • In what areas of foreign policymaking would the input of women leaders and senior officials be most beneficial?
  • What has been done to make the European External Action Service more gender-balanced?
  • How and what kind of initiatives and policies could encourage the Member States to enhance women’s presence in their diplomatic corps and contribute to gender diversity in their secondments to EU institutions and other international organisations?
  • How can the different cultures of the EU institutions unite behind the gender equality strategy and pursue this goal across their own ranks?

The event is run under the umbrella of the CEE Her Initiative, implemented by GLOBSEC.
