Hani Khabbaz began his term as the Director General of the SRTF Management Unit (MU) on 1 June 2014. Established in 2013 by three original members - Germany, UAE and USA - the SRTF is a multi-donor trust fund that finances projects inside Syria that alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people. It has 14 Member States, including 12 contributing donors, and Turkey and Jordan as host countries. To date, donor funding to the SRTF exceeds USD 170 million.
A Syrian national, Mr. Khabbaz is an energetic and successful leader with a keen understanding of complex recovery and reconstruction issues in conflict and post-conflict environments as well as longer-term development issues in Syria and the region.
As a strategic and operational leader, he guides the SRTF’s MU in developing and implementing essential services projects in electricity, water, health, education, solid waste management, food security and agriculture in five governorates, benefiting over two million Syrians inside Syria in 2015 and around four million people in 2016.
Mr. Khabbaz holds a BSc. in Mechanical Engineering and is certified in information technology and business management. He has more than twenty years of experience, holding senior management and business consulting positions in IT, manufacturing and retail, oil and gas utilities, government and humanitarian coordination.
Prior to starting his own consulting practice in 2002, Mr. Khabbaz was a Regional Director with Arthur Andersen Consulting. In August of 2011, as the crisis in Syria unfolded, Mr. Khabbaz began providing relief and aid to the Syrian people; between April 2012 and May 2014 he dedicated himself to mitigating the suffering of his compatriots. He was instrumental in the creation of the Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU), a quasi-Syrian opposition government entity based in Turkey, and led its wing in Jordan, coordinating and delivering humanitarian assistance for millions of Syrians inside Syria and in neighbouring countries.
