Stuart (Stu) Butler currently leads the Operational Requirements Team within BAE.
Stu is an experienced Maritime Patrol Pilot and Flying Instructor having primarily flown the Nimrod maritime reconnaissance aircraft at RAF Kinloss and instructed on the Jet Provost Mk5 at RAF Cranwell. He has commanded 206 Nimrod Squadron and RAF Kinloss and has undertaken a number of operational command tours including running the Combined Air Operations Centre in Qatar during 2004 where he commanded the air effort over Iraq, Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa. Stu also has considerable MoD and Air Command experience having undertaken staff tours at 4 different ranks. He has been a Force Commander, an Equipment Capability Director and a Capability Manager for C4ISR. Stu left the RAF in 2008 as an Air Vice-Marshal and remains closely involved with RAF through regular engagement and military based activities.
Stu joined BAE Systems in 2009 and is currently the Operational Requirements Director and, with his small Team of ex-military Subject Matter Experts, is responsible for providing expert advice across the BAE Systems business both nationally and internationally.
Married to Jane, who also works for BAE Systems as the UK Government Relations Director, they have 4 daughters between then from previous marriages who are at various stages of education and careers. They both enjoy keeping fit and Stu is a particularly fanatical golfer. He also continues to fly for pleasure and enjoys DIY.
