Chief Economist

Job description, responsibilities and duties

GLOBSEC is looking for a Chief Economist, who provides strategic leadership on covered topics and intellectual direction within the Economy & Business Programme. This role shapes the programme's research agenda, produces high-quality economic analysis, and delivers actionable insights that influence public policy and drive meaningful change. The Chief Economist works closely with Economy & Business Programme Director and external stakeholders to enhance GLOBSEC’s reputation as a leading think tank on economic policy and competitiveness.

Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilities are:

1. Research and Policy Development

Lead the development of GLOBSEC’s economic research agenda, focusing on topics such as EU competitiveness, sustainable growth, digital transformation, capital markets, and macro-financial stability.

​Produce and oversee impactful economic analyses, policy briefs, and reports that align with GLOBSEC's mission and address needs of individual programme’s initiatives.

Develop policy recommendations to address key economic and business issues in Europe and globally.

Stay ahead of global economic trends and provide thought leadership on emerging topics, ensuring GLOBSEC remains a relevant player in shaping policy debates.

2. Stakeholder Engagement and Outreach

Represent GLOBSEC at high-level forums and in media appearances, and other public engagements.

​Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, business leaders, think tanks, international organizations, and corporate partners.

3Content Development and Collaboration

Collaborate with the Economy and Business Programme Director to develop and implement the programme’s strategic objectives.

Contribute to cross-programme initiatives to strengthen GLOBSEC’s multidisciplinary approach to policy-making.

Provide expertise and advisory support to other programme areas and organizational leadership.

Contribute to the content, design and execution of GLOBSEC flagship events, such as the GLOBSEC Forum and Tatra Summit, ensuring robust economic content and expert participation.

4. Fundraising and Resource Development

Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support the programme’s research and initiatives.

Build relationships with potential donors and partners to secure financial sustainability for economic projects.

University education (Master's degree)
Postgraduate (Doctorate)

Educational Specialization

Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Economics, Finance, or a related field.

  • Proven expertise in EU economic policy, global trade, macroeconomics, or related areas.

  • Experience in fundraising and managing donor relations is highly desirable.
  • Strategic thinker with a passion for driving policy change and fostering impactful dialogue.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging diverse audiences.
