Tomáš Valášek, who leads the Central European Policy Institute recently became Slovakia’s new ambassador to NATO. He presented his credentials to NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on 17th April 2013. On this occasion, they discussed Slovak views on NATO´s enlargement, Western Balkans and NATO defence capabilities. Though he will spend most of his time in Brussels, he retains his position of CEPI’s president and continues to guide the team.

Previously, he worked as director of foreign policy & defence at the Centre for European Reform in London (2006-2012). He has written extensively on European defence capabilities, budgets and collaboration; on transatlantic relations; common European foreign and security policy, and on defence industrial issues. Before that, he served as Policy Director and head of the Security and Defense Policy Division at the Slovak Ministry of Defence.
