GLOBSEC 2018 Press Conference Roundup

Yesterday, GLOBSEC was delighted to host guests from Slovak media to discuss the issues and developments shaping this year’s Bratislava Forum, and much more besides. We certainly provided our guests with plenty of food for thought.

Beyond this year’s GLOBSEC Bratislava Forum 2018, President Róbert Vass and GLOBSEC Policy Institute (GPI) Director Jakub Wiśniewski also highlighted the key findings of GLOBSEC Megatrends 2018, our first foray into regularly determining and highlighting those issues that are having a profound impact on Central Europe and their implications for the wider World. In addition, our guests were also introduced to the facts and figures that make up GLOBSEC Trends 2018.

The press conference was also the ideal opportunity to discuss developments in the GPI, such as our From Criminals to Terrorists and Back? project and recent contributions to energy, European Union and other debates. Guests were also introduced to some exciting developments regarding our cyber programme, most notably our collaboration with the Global Commission on the Stability of Cyberspace. Finally, this was a time for Slovakia’s leading media professionals to ask us questions about issues shaping the World stage and closer to home.

Coverage of yesterday’s press conference has certainly been positive. The Slovak Spectator, for instance, highlighted how this year’s Bratislava Forum will be more than just a platform for exchanging opinions. Indeed, as Robert explained:

‘’We’re also bringing our own views as well as our recommendations for several issues to be discussed.” Our President went on to emphasise that the event will also have more of technology focus, a development that is – in GLOBSEC’s view – crucial for the years ahead. It’s a theme that was also picked up on by Dobre Noviny.

Dennik N’s coverage also covered similar ground, but nevertheless took time out to emphasise that the Forum will still be covering issues around which GLOBSEC has built its reputation in Slovakia and further afield. These include the future of the European Union and multi-speed integration, relations with Russia, the fight against terrorism and globalisation.

Beyond Slovakia, the Czech Republic’s Tyden highlighted that Prime Minister Andrej Babiš will be at this year’s Bratislava Forum, and that there will be discussions between V4 officials on the current state and future of the region. Our press conference was also highlighted in Italy, with Agenzia Nova broadcasting our work and agenda to the Italian speaking world.

We are delighted to have received such coverage prior to the start of GLOBSEC Bratislava Forum 2018. We anticipate that media interest in our summit and research will only increase in the days and weeks ahead!
