On Monday, 16 February, CEPI hosted strategic discussion with Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu. A roundtable debate with Slovak foreign policy and energy experts was part of Mr. Aurescu’s working visit to Slovakia. Chaired by CEPI’s director Milan Nič, it primarily focused on the EU and NATO response to Russia, evaluation of the Minsk II Agreement, and possible Russian strategy beyond eastern Ukraine. Participants agreed that stakes in the current crisis are higher than Ukraine. Crisis is not over with a fragile ceasefire agreed in Minsk. In fact, crisis is now a new normality.
Other topics discussed included regional energy security, Moldova’s prospects following a recent failure to approve a new pro-European government, and Romanian views on the V4 cooperation.
