Dr. Claudia Major is Senior associate in the International Security Division at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) Berlin. Her research, advisory work, publications and media contributions focus on security and defence policy in Europe and transatlantic security (EU, NATO, Germany, UK, France), with a particular focus on German security and defence policy. Claudia has authored numerous research and policy articles, op-eds and book chapters. Recent publications deal with Germany’s security and defence policy, NATO’s strategic adaptation, Brexit, Franco-German relations in defence, and recent developments in European security and defence policy. Previous professional experiences include the EU Institute for Security Studies (Paris), the Center for Security Studies of the ETH Zurich, the German Foreign Office, and Sciences Po Paris. Claudia is member in various boards, such as the Advisory Board for Civilian Crisis Prevention at the Federal Foreign Office. Claudia graduated from the Free University Berlin and Sciences Po Paris and holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham, UK.
