H.E. Ditmir Bushati currently serves as the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania while he serves a member of Parliament as well.
Ditmir Bushati started his career as legal Advisor to the Constitutional Court the Office of the President of the Republic of Albania and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Later was appointed as Advisor on European Affairs to the Deputy Prime Minister. Bushati held the position of Director of Legal Approximation at the Albanian Ministry of European Integration.
In year 2011 Mr. Bushati was a Member of the Steering Committee of the Socialist Party of Albania. Since 2009 until 2013 he was a member of the Joint EU-Albania Parliamentary Committee. From 2011 to 2013 he chaired the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration.
Regarding Ditmir Bushati’s assignments outside of the parliament, he served as an officer for the First Marine Regiment since 1987 until 1998. Since 1991 until 1992 Bushati held a position of Secretary–General of the Moderate Party’s youth section. From 1993 to 1994 served as a Political advisor at the Ministry of Enterprise. Since 2002 until 2006 was appointed a Chair of the Vaxholm Municipal Council. Since 2007 until 2008 served as an Analyst for Freedom House. In year 2008 was appointed a Civil society leader and a Founding Director of the European Movement in Albania.
He is a recipient of various fellowships and research grants, including TEMPUS, NUFFIC, Victor Folsom, Kokkalis, TMC Asser Institute, and has been a researcher on European Affairs at the European Centre for Public Law of the University of Athens, Greece. Took part on various trainings on international affairs at several universities and research centres, including Harvard University, the Academy of International Law in Dallas, USA and the Abo University Academy, Finland.
Mr. Bushati is a graduate from the Faculty of Law of the University of Tirana. In 2001 he obtained his Masters Degree in Public International Law (LL.M) from Leiden University in Netherlands.
He is married and has two children.
