Johan Van Overtveldt (°1955) has a Ph.D. in Applied Economics (University of Antwerp) and obtained an MBA at the University of Leuven.
He started his career as a journalist for Trends in 1978 but made his transition to the private sector in 1982 where he worked for BBL, Shoeconfex and British Tyre & Rubber. In 1992 he returned to Trends to become Editor in Chief. Subsequently he became Advisor for Group VCR and General Director of VKW before finally returning to Trends a second time in 2010. From September 2011 until October 2012 he became Editor in Chief for Knack. As from 2012 he has been a part time professor in macro-economics at the University of Hasselt.
In 2013, Johan made his entry into politics and became economic advisor for N-VA. During the elections in 2014, he was the first candidate on the European List and was elected Member of the European Parliament. In October of that year he took on the mandate of Minister of Finance in the current government Michel I. Johan lives in Kapellen, Antwerp and is a father of four.
