Martin Stropnický was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic on 13 December 2017. Between 2014 and 2017 he held the post of Defence Minister of the Czech Republic. In 1998 he served as Minister of Culture in a caretaker government.
He was elected to the Czech Parliament in 2013 and reelected in 2017, representing the ANO 2011 Movement.
He has extensive diplomatic experience, having served as the Czech Republic’s Ambassador to Portugal (1993- 1994), Italy (1994-1997) and the Holy Sea (1999-2002).
Martin Stropnický graduated in 1980 with a Master’s Degree from the Prague Academy of Performing Arts. In 1991 he completed his studies at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. He is fluent in English, French and Italian.
