Tarek Osman is the author of “Islamism: What It Means for the Middle East and the World” (Yale, 2016) and the prescient international bestseller “Egypt on the Brink” (Yale, 2010). He is the writer and presenter of several major BBC documentary series, most recently “Sunni-Shii: Islam Divided”. A regular contributor to leading publications on the Arab and Islamic worlds, Tarek has lectured on Arab and Islamic history and the political-economy of the Middle East at several European universities. He is the senior political counsellor of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the Arab world and Turkey.
