"Anti EU-rhetoric versus own national interest? Nationalistic populism and its reception in Central Europe" project summary

Between September 2017 and February 2019, GLOBSEC partnered in a project ran by the Austrian Society for European Politics in cooperation with the Center for European Neighborhood Studies at the Central European University, the Center of International Relations at the University of Ljubljana and the EUROPEUM think tank in Prague.

The project “Anti EU-rhetoric versus own national interest? Nationalistic populism and its reception in Central Europe” examined why political and societal actors resort to anti-European rhetoric and what impact nationalistic populism in the region has on the cohesion of the EU.

Within the project, GLOBSEC StratCom researchers published a report on Pro-European Island in Central Europe? highlighting key findings of the public opinion poll in Slovakia, contributed to a policy brief and final report Populism in Central Europe 2018, and participated in 7 public debates across regional capitals and in Brussels to present the research results and discuss the issues with the wider public.

The project was co-financed by the Europe for Citizens Programme of the European Union.
