Reflections from Prague European Summit 2018

22.06.2018

“Central Europe is Western by history and culture, but most importantly by choice”.

This was one of the important messages delivered by US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs A. Wess Mitchell during his keynote address at this year's Prague European Summit. In his speech, Dr Mitchell also stressed the shared values that bond Europe, in particular former Czechoslovakia, and the United States. He also cautioned against protectionism, and reaffirmed Washington's commitment to European security, before going on to warn NATO's European partners to carry their fair share of responsibility for defence.

We are also grateful for the warm words Dr Mitchell had for GLOBSEC and our activities, particularly the GLOBSEC Bratislava Forum. He was particularly thankful for organisations like ourselves and our support for transatlantic relations. For our part, we are grateful to the organisers of the Prague European Summit for bestowing upon GLOBSEC the privilege to co-host this special event.

Dr Mitchell was joined on stage by Jakub Dürr, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for European Issues of the Czech Republic, and GLOBSEC's Honorary Chairman Rastislav Káčer. The keynote speech was accompanied by a lively discussion and thought-provoking Q&A session.

GLOBSEC is delighted to provide you with more images from the highlight of this year's Prague European Summit.
