The EU has finally overcome its budget impasse, with EU heads of state and government, including Hungary and Poland, agreeing to approve both the budget and the coronavirus recovery package. Following weeks of resistance and divisions between member states, EU leaders reached a consensus and can now begin implementing the provisions and building back their economies. Though the clash over the rule-of-law scheme was resolved with a compromise brokered by Germany, growing rifts within the EU are still present. With the verdict still out on what this deal means for Central Europe and the EU, this online discussion will seek to sift through what the continuing gulf entails for the future of the EU and the region and the path forward from here.
