EU Finance Ministers, Senior Policymakers and Leading Business Figures to Discuss Europe’s Competitiveness at Tatra Summit 2018
Laying the foundations for a more competitive Europe is at the heart of Tatra Summit 2018.
Between October 5-6, GLOBSEC will host two days of lively debate and thought-provoking discussions based around the theme of competitiveness and the future of Europe. Insights and answers will come from a stellar cast of political figures and renowned experts that include seven EU finance ministers, European Commissioners and the Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
In keeping with previous years, Tatra Summit 2018 will acknowledge the outstanding contribution made by an individual to keeping Europe’s economy and society strong, competitive and prosperous. We’re delighted to announce that the recipient of this year’s GLOBSEC European Award is the OECD’s Angel Gurría. We will also honour Andreas Treichl, the CEO of Erste Group Bank AG, Vienna with the GLOBSEC Business Award.
Tatra Summit 2018 will also be the platform for a series of initiatives and statements that have competitiveness in mind. These include the launch of the Slovak Battery Alliance, which aims to enhance domestic production of batteries for electric vehicles. There will also be an important announcement from the V4 Ministers of Finance, and Slovakia’s Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini will outline the country’s priorities for its OECD Chairmanship. Further announcements will cover key investment initiatives for Slovakia and its neighbours.
For its part, GLOBSEC looks forward to rolling out a series of policy proposals generated by our Focus Groups. Tatra Summit 2018 is also the official launchpad for new GLOBSEC initiatives, specifically:
- GLOBSEC EU Task Force
- ‘’EP Elections and Beyond: Active Participation of EU Citizens at All Levels’’
- ‘’European Governance: Potential of Differentiated Cooperation’’ (DIFF GOV).
‘’This year’s Tatra Summit is a statement of intent on our part,’’ says GLOBSEC President Róbert Vass. ‘’Europe is on the cusp of tectonic changes that present both problems and opportunities. GLOBSEC wants to be part of the dialogue and offer solutions that keep the entire continent competitive for the years ahead.’’
