GLOBSEC receives Golden Plaque from Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák

Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák awarded the international think tank GLOBSEC with the Golden Plaque at the award ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 9th March 2020.  

The award recognises GLOBSEC’s ongoing commitment to the global debate on foreign and security policy and its crucial role in addressing and providing expert advice on tackling present and future threats and contribution to shaping the European and global agenda. 

When presenting the award Mr Lajčák stated: "I present GLOBSEC with this award for its significant role in shaping the foreign and European policies, public discussions on foreign, security and European issues, and positive representation of the Slovak Republic abroad.”  

On the side of GLOBSEC, the Golden Plaque was received by its President Róbert Vass, Chairman Rastislav Káčer and First Vice-President Milan Solár.  

Róbert Vass said: “We are honoured to have received this accolade. On behalf of the GLOBSEC team of more than 70 people from 12 countries, I’d like to extend our thanks for this award to the Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák. GLOBSEC was founded as a Slovak student project. Today it represents an internationally recognised platform that facilitates the interaction of people from around the world with our institutions in order to generate ideas that make Europe and the world a better place. These young people have been working hard to prove that the CEE region, Slovakia and Bratislava can host and contribute to a global dialogue on current social, economic and security issues, therefore, this award belongs also to them as well as to those who have contributed to the development of Slovak foreign policy.”  

“We believe Slovakia is not a small country and its ambitions and impact are not defined by its size, but by the power of ideas and their ability to be competitive on the global stage. We have been working tirelessly towards GLOBSEC’s objectives for 15 years. Throughout our history, we have accomplished a lot and many of our achievements would not have been possible without continuous support we have received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomats, our global friends and partners,” he added.  

The Golden Plaque awards are presented to professionals who have demonstrated notable civic merits, to politicians, foreign dignitaries and representatives who have significantly contributed to the geopolitical discourse and international relations.
