On 14th November, GLOBSEC Policy Institute’s representatives spoke in a panel discussion on transatlantic responses to the growing threat disinformation poses to our democracies, with a focus on lessons learned and best practices. Daniel Milo, Senior Research Fellow, GLOBSEC Policy Institute

Jakub Wiśniewski, Vice President and Research Director, GLOBSEC Policy Institute; former Ambassador of Poland to the OECD; and former Head of Foreign Policy Strategy, Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Moderator:

Jamie Fly, Senior Fellow and Director, Future of Geopolitics and Asia Program, The German Marshall Fund of the United States

As we witnessed last week, representatives from Facebook, Google and Twitter testified on Capitol Hill regarding the use of their platforms to disseminate Russian disinformation before and after the 2016 U.S. presidential election. While these hearings focused on Russia’s role in the U.S. election, Russia’s activities continue today on both sides of the Atlantic enabled by a foundation built over several years of operations in the transatlantic information space. As we seek to present a united front to this ongoing assault on democracy, the Alliance for Securing Democracy and GLOBSEC incorporated findings from the Alliance’s Hamilton 68 and Artikel 38 dashboards, as well as other Alliance and GLOBSEC research, to outline lessons-learned and best practices to counter, deter and defend our democracies against Russia’s disinformation operations. The discussion was vibrant and rich with practical solutions.
