Dr. Kounalakis brings a wealth of experience as an author, publisher, journalist, and scholar with a distinguished career spanning decades in international reporting, media, and foreign affairs.

As a former foreign correspondent for Newsweek and NBC-Mutual News, Dr. Kounalakis covered major international events across Europe and the Soviet Union, later becoming president and publisher of Washington Monthly. With our International Advisory Council, we have created a truly global community that strives to leave a legacy by making a positive impact and driving policy change. It comprises leaders and experts from various fields who provide strategic guidance and support to the organization’s mission. That is why we are also honoured to welcome Dr. Kounalakis in the IAC, where his extensive knowledge and insights will help guide our mission to promote security, prosperity, and sustainable development in Europe and the world,” commented Robert Vass, President of GLOBSEC.

Dr. Kounalakis responded by noting “GLOBESEC has exploded out the gate to become one of the more dynamic international organizations focused on geopolitics and security issues. In a very short amount of time, GLOBESEC has made a significant impact on both strategic analysis and critical policy formation thanks to its broad and engaged support base, global perspective, and solutions orientation. I am honored to join my highly accomplished colleagues on the International Advisory Council.”
