Statement on the cancellation of partnership with Huawei at GLOBSEC 2020 Bratislava Forum
After discussions with the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic, our strategic partners and with Huawei representatives, we made the decision that Huawei will not be a partner at the GLOBSEC 2020 Bratislava Forum.
GLOBSEC is an independent and values-based organisation which supports a free, democratic society and rule of law. The Forum is a platform for open and transparent discussions about the most pressing issues of international relations, economy and security. It is important that discussions about these topics do not happen only in closed circles and ideological bubbles, but support fair and expert discussions based on rational debate. Representatives of Huawei will thus attend the conference in a similar vein to other representatives from the private sector.
We would like to stress that neither Huawei nor any other partner does not have any influence over the content of debates at the Forum, or on the research of our think tank, the GLOBSEC Policy Institute. GLOBSEC strives to serve as a platform for honest and open dialogue, where ideas and differing opinions can be debated and confronted. However, respect for a free, democratic, and open society, including our support for transatlantic values and EU and NATO partnerships are at the core of our organisation.
