What Will the World Look Like After COVID-19? GLOBSEC Brings Together Experts From Around the World to Find Answers to the Biggest Challenges Posed by the Pandemic
Bratislava, 26. august 2020 |The international think-tank GLOBSEC is hosting a unique virtual conference from 26 - 28th August with approximately 1,000 guests from around the world. Amongst the most interesting speakers are Estonian president, Kersti Kaljulaid, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs from the US Department of State, senior EU and NATO officials, and a rocket engineer involved in the exploration of Mars.
The event was preceded by a three-month online intelligence brainstorming with experts from around the world about the effects of the pandemic and the trends that will shape the world in the coming period. "During summer we didn’t waste any time and took advantage of the unique network of political stakeholders, thinkers and business representatives GLOBSEC has gathered during the 15 years of its existence. Together with those experts, we identified the biggest challenges the world will face in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic,” explains GLOBSEC President Róbert Vass.
From economics to Artificial Intelligence to the mission to Mars
In addition to the effects of the pandemic on state policy-making, the GLOBSEC Digital Stage will address topics such as strengthening relations between European countries and the US, the growth of China's geopolitical influence, economic issues in the context of the Central Europe region and the EU, as well as the role of digital technologies. Guests will also discuss the current situation in Belarus and Lebanon. An interesting part of the conference will be an interview with former NASA aeronautical engineer Anita Sengupta, who will speak on humanity's mission to Mars. "The individual discussions will be connected through a modern virtual studio, using interactive elements. It will be a truly unique experience for the participants, ” adds Vass. The conference will also be broadcast online via the GLOBSEC YouTube, Facebook and Twitter channels.
The result will be a set of recommendations
The outcome of the digital conference will be a comprehensive report and concrete recommendations for national and EU policy-making. "I am glad that this global initiative was born in Slovakia and that it will result in a set of recommendations that will help political leaders in the challenging period that awaits all of us," says Ivan Korčok, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.
The initiative is part of a series of activities organized by GLOBSEC in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative will culminate in the GLOBSEC 2020 Bratislava Forum and Tatra Summit conferences in October this year. The strategic partners of the conference are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic, the International Visegrad Fund, NATO, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Wilfried Martens Center for European Studies.
