The Danube Tech Valley Initiative (DTVI) is a regional platform launched by GLOBSEC to foster innovation and cross-border collaboration across the Danube Valley.

Its mission is to enhance the competitiveness of the countries by building an integrated innovation ecosystem, drawing on regional strengths in manufacturing, talent, and entrepreneurial potential. The initiative brings together uniting governments, research institutions, universities, start-ups, and the private sector to accelerate the region's transition into a hub for technological development, Industry 4.0, and the green economy.

Why is the Initiative Needed?

The CEE region faces a critical juncture due to geopolitical disruptions from Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the COVID-19 pandemic aftermath. These challenges, combined with a historically fragmented market and limited financial resources have hampered innovation efforts. While CEE economies are rich in STEM talent and strong manufacturing sectors, further investment in R&D, education, and digitalisation is essential to fully unlock their potential. Through regional cooperation, DTVI seeks to harness regional strengths, foster cross-border synergies, and position the region as a global leader in emerging technologies and sustainable innovation.

Key Objectives

  • Promote R&D and University Collaboration:  Support partnerships between universities, research institutions, and industries to spur R&D activities and create a steady pipeline of innovative ideas and talent.

  • Enhance Digital Transformation:  Facilitate the adoption of digital technologies such as AI, e-mobility, and automation across industries. Strengthen digital infrastructure to ensure fast, reliable connectivity throughout the region and foster the growth of tech start-ups.

  • Build Cross-Border Collaboration:  Establish connections among governments, universities, start-ups, and private enterprises to foster knowledge exchange and align efforts.

  • Address Innovation Gaps:  Promote access to financial capital, support human talent, and streamline regulatory frameworks across borders to enhance the innovation ecosystem.

  • Strengthen Regional Markets:  Enable companies to scale by improving access to both domestic and foreign markets.

  • Support Industry 4.0 and Green Transition:  Encourage investment in next-generation technologies like artificial intelligence, e-mobility, and clean energy solutions.

  • Facilitate Knowledge Sharing:  Create platforms such as summits and public-private partnerships to identify regional strengths and share best practices.
