GESI The EU and its defence dimension

It is no surprise that European defence still lags behind the capabilities of the United States, despite the fact strategies to close the gap are by no means scarce. GLOBSEC would like to contribute to the debate via its new initiative ’s short and action-oriented publications. The first GLOBSEC European Security Initiative (GESI) paper discusses the risks Europe currently faces on three fronts and suggests a number of ways to make  European defence more effective, efficient and capable. Although each threat, whether in the south, east, or north, has its own unique challenges and necessitates a distinguished approach, the proposed recommendations are focused on streamlining the processes of all EU Member States and addressing them from the ground up.

This is the first in a series of policy papers written by the Initiative’s Chair Gen. Knud Bartels.
