Aya Yoshida

Head of Asia Pacific and Partnership Division, International Energy Agency (IEA)

Aya Yoshida oversees the relationship between IEA and Asia-Pacific countries through enhancing the framework of association.  Asian countries are major energy consumers in the world, and supporting clean energy transition while maintaining robust economic growth is critical for the energy security in the region and for the global energy market.  Under the leadership of Dr Fatih Birol, the Executive Director, IEA is promoting ‘modernization,’ and opening the door of the IEA to the growing region is the key priorities of IEA.

Since Aya joined the IEA, Singapore, India and Brazil joined the Association. Currently, Seven association countries, namely Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, and Morocco, together with 30 member countries (so-called IEA Family), accounts for over 70% of global energy consumption. The IEA will continue to improve high-quality energy data and provide expertise and energy policy recommendations to the governments and energy communities in Asia.

Aya Yoshida has more than 20 years of diplomatic career as a diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Japan. She served as Senior Negotiator for Climate Change (2013-2016) in the run-up to the historic adoption of the Paris Agreement.
